This document is about the first National Summit on Retirement Savings held in June 1998 in Washington, D.C. The Summit brought together leaders from both political parties, large corporations and small businesses, labor organizations, and numerous groups involved with employee benefits, personal finance and retirement issues. The report details the current state of retirement saving and education, models for educating the public about retirement saving, and the barriers and opportunities discussed by the Summit's break-out groups. The key themes that emerged were the need for increased retirement education, simplification of government policies, and creating incentives to encourage saving.
