This document is about the author's submission to the ERISA Advisory Council on the topic of permissive transfers of uncashed checks from ERISA plans to state unclaimed property funds. It includes a survey of state return rates and comments on the treatment of ERISA property in unclaimed property audits. The author argues that state unclaimed property programs offer a superior means for owners to recover missing assets compared to other alternatives available to plans.
