This document is about a self-compliance tool created by the U.S. Department of Labor to help group health plans, plan sponsors, plan administrators, group and individual market health insurance issuers, and state regulators determine whether a group health plan or health insurance issuer complies with the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA). The tool provides guidance on MHPAEA's requirements, including applicability, coverage in all classifications, lifetime and annual limits, financial requirements, quantitative treatment limitations, nonquantitative treatment limitations, disclosure requirements, and establishing an internal MHPAEA compliance plan. It includes examples and illustrations to demonstrate how the law applies in certain situations.
