This document is about an advisory opinion from the U.S. Department of Labor regarding whether the Hanford Employee Welfare Trust (HEWT) constitutes a single employee welfare benefit plan maintained by a bona fide group or association of employers under ERISA. The Department concludes that the group of DOE contractors at the Hanford Site who subscribe to the HEWT would, at least in form, constitute a bona fide employer group or association, and the HEWT would therefore constitute a single employee welfare benefit plan for purposes of Title I of ERISA.
