This document is an advisory opinion from the U.S. Department of Labor that a plan administrator is not required to review a state court's determination that an individual is a "former spouse" or "surviving spouse" of a plan participant under state domestic relations law when determining whether a domestic relations order is a qualified domestic relations order under ERISA.
