Owning or running a business requires a host of tasks, including finding ways to comply with federal wage and hour laws. When employees are treated in ways that are consistent with the law, workers are protected and employers compete on a level playing field. Most employers want to comply with the law, but often have questions about how to meet those responsibilities. This half-day workshop will provide details about the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), and will offer best practices in an online setting.

The United States Department of Labor Wage & Hour Division (US DOL WHD) Columbus District Office, Cleveland Area Office, together with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Cleveland Area Office are hosting a webinar that discusses compliance with the regulations pertaining to the Family First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and protecting the safety and health of workers from Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The US DOL WHD is the federal office responsible for enforcing federal labor laws. The Division was formed with the enactment of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. The WHD 's mission is to promote and achieve compliance with labor standards to protect and enhance the welfare of the Nation's workforce.

The US DOL OSHA is the federal office responsible for establishing and enforcing regulations that protect the safety and health of workers . The Division was created through the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. OSHA's mission is to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance.

Fair Labor Standards Act & Families First Coronavirus Response Act

This half-day workshop will provide details about the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), and will offer best practices in an online setting. Topics of discussion will include what constitutes hours worked, deductions, overtime, bonuses, record keeping, youth employment and break time for nursing mothers under the FLSA, as well as, eligibility, paid leave, and other requirements under the FFCRA. The PAID self-audit program will also be introduced, along with ways to help promote compliance and avoid violations.
