SEM Updated as of the week of May 22, 2018

The Site Exposure Matrices (SEM) website has been updated! This update makes the website current through May 22, 2018. New information is now available for 72 DOE sites including initial SEM profiles for Hangar 481 and the Feed Materials Production Center (Fernald) Site Closure activities. Significant additions were also made to the Brookhaven National Laboratory, Pinellas Plant, and Y-12 Plant profiles.

DOL received 33 public submittals related to toxic substances and diseases since the last update on November 16, 2017. Four of those submittals resulted in SEM revisions. One submittal resulted in the review of 652 radiological incident reports with results being used to revise the Area IV of the Santa Susanna Field Laboratory, Canoga, Downey, and DeSoto Avenue profiles. DOL reviews of the labor categories in the Department of Energy’s Comprehensive Epidemiologic Data Resource (CEDR) are continuing. Since November 16, 2017, reviews of CEDR have been completed for four (4) additional DOE sites and the associated SEM profiles of each of those sites were updated with the results, including the Savannah River Site and the Mound Plant.

Information provided by the DOL District Offices is also being used to update SEM. The SEM profiles of six (6) DOE sites were updated including the Sandia National Laboratory-Albuquerque, Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant, and Construction (all sites).

Since the SEM first became available to the public in March 2010, there have been fifteen revisions of the SEM website. Prior to the release of each new version, the US Department of Energy (DOE) reviews the new and revised information to ensure that no classification issues exist. If necessary, changes are made. For this most recent version, no changes were required.
