SHIPROCK, NM – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP) will host a two-day outreach event August 29 and 30, 2018, in Shiprock, New Mexico, to inform current and former workers in the uranium mining and nuclear weapons industries about the benefits available to them under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). Workers’ family members may be entitled to benefits and are encouraged to participate.

OWCP staff will provide information regarding medical authorizations, bill processing, and home health-care services to those who need them. After the presentation, OWCP staff will be available to assist claimants with the filing of new conditions under the EEOICPA and provide status updates on their existing EEOICPA claims

The EEOICPA provides compensation and medical benefits to employees whose work in the uranium mining and nuclear weapons industries made them ill. To date, the program has paid more than $2.2 billion in EEOICPA compensation and medical benefits to eligible claimants living in New Mexico, and more than $15.2 billion nationwide.

This event is open to the public and pre-registration is not required. Services are available on a first-come, first-served basis. For additional information about this event or to schedule an appointment for claim-filing assistance, contact DEEOIC’s Espanola Resource Center at (866) 272-3622.
