Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOIC)
WASHINGTON – Rachel P. Leiton, Director of the Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation (DEEOIC), part of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs, issues the following statement regarding the October 30, 2016, National Day of Remembrance for Nuclear Weapons Program Workers:
“October 30th marks the National Day of Remembrance for Nuclear Weapons Program Workers. At this time I would like to thank all the nuclear weapons workers and their families for the sacrifices they made building this country’s nuclear weapons program. These individuals worked in jobs that posed great risk to their health and I want to thank them for their dedication and service. I encourage those individuals who became ill due to their workplace exposure to apply for compensation under the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act (EEOICPA). The compensation and medical benefits offered under the EEOICPA may assist with the hardships many nuclear weapons workers are now facing.”
To assist individuals regardless of where they live, DEEOIC has established 11 stationary resource centers located nationwide that provide an initial point-of-contact for individuals interested in filing a claim under the EEOICPA. Resource center staff provide assistance both in-person and over the telephone. For a listing of each resource center or to obtain additional information about how to file a claim under the EEOICPA, call toll-free at (866) 888-3322 or visit DEEOIC’s website at: http://www.dol.gov/owcp/energy/.
