The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently sent what they call Conditional Payment letters to some Black Lung beneficiaries. CMS has informed us that they sent the letters by accident. If you receive a Conditional Payment letter from CMS related to medical treatment services for your Black Lung condition, you do not need to make any payments to Medicare. You are not liable and have no responsibility to repay the costs of the medical services that are related to your black lung covered conditions. The Federal Black Lung program will continue to cover medical expenses related to your Black Lung condition. We will keep CMS informed of any information they need to know regarding your Black Lung Benefits.
