Remote Electronic Voting in Union Officer Elections - Listening Session
Remote electronic voting in union officer elections – “internet voting” – has been a hot topic among unions and at the Department of Labor's Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) for many years. OLMS is hosting a virtual listening session on internet voting in union officer elections, pursuant to the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA), on May 9, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET.
In 2016, OLMS issued its current guidance on internet voting: Electing Union Officers Using Remote Electronic Voting Systems. With continued public interest in internet voting under the LMRDA, OLMS has scheduled this session to hear diverse views and gather individual input from participants.
At the listening session, for those who will have the opportunity to present, OLMS encourages you to address any aspect of the existing OLMS guidance, including any technological and other developments since OLMS issued the guidance in 2016. Your insight and expertise will help OLMS evaluate the current guidance.
If you request to present at the event, please RSVP by April 9. OLMS will then determine presenters based upon interest, experience, and expertise in internet voting. Those who seek to listen to the session must RSVP by May 5. OLMS will then provide video conference and dial-in information. We will also let you know the specific time and duration of any approved presenting slot during the session. Please request alternative formats, sign language interpreters, and other reasonable accommodations for effective communications at least five business days prior to the event via email to OLMS-Public@dol.gov.
Thank you for your interest in this important subject. If you have any questions or need any assistance, please contact OLMS at (202) 693-0123 or OLMS-Public@dol.gov.
