OLMS Launches Expanded FOIA Web Page

In an effort to assist the public and to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) has launched a newly expanded Online FOIA Reading Room at:

The new content includes the following documents:

  • Final decisions in union officer election cases

  • Letters dismissing union officer election complaints on grounds of procedural deficiency;
  • Statements of Reasons documenting the agency’s reasons for dismissing union member election complaints without taking enforcement action;
  • Determinations certifying remedial elections supervised by OLMS that were conducted pursuant to voluntary compliance agreements; and
  • Certifications of OLMS supervised elections conducted pursuant to court order.
  • Final decisions in trusteeship cases: Statements of Reasons documenting the agency’s reasons for dismissing, without enforcement action, union member complaints concerning the imposition or conduct of a trusteeship
  • Assistant Secretary Decisions and Orders:  Final OLMS decisions in Civil Service Reform Act (CSRA), Standards of Conduct cases.
  • Continuing Hardship Exemptions: Agency determinations on union requests for Continuing Hardship Exemptions from the requirement to file Form LM-2 and Form T-1 electronically.
  • Transit Employee Protections Determinations: Certification and claims determinations issued by the agency under provisions of federal transit law.

OLMS will post prior documents beginning with November 1, 1996 as they become electronically available, and it will post all new documents prospectively. OLMS has already posted the most recent documents from each category.

The new Online FOIA Reading Room continues to include information on how to make a FOIA request, frequently requested reports, as well as many other FOIA resources and documents.
