International Compliance Audit Program FAQs Now Posted on the OLMS Web site
The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) has posted on its Web site a series of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about its International Compliance Audit Program (I-CAP).
Audits are performed by OLMS pursuant to the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA) to determine if unions and other entities and individuals are complying with the law, to investigate potential violations of the law, and to provide compliance assistance to help unions meet the statutory requirements. The OLMS I-CAP is a specialized audit of records and investigation designed to verify LMRDA compliance by national and international unions.
The FAQs cover pre-audit procedures, what takes place during the audit, and post-audit procedures.
Additions will be made to this frequently asked questions section on a regular basis. If you have a question that is not addressed here, you may e-mail it to OLMS-Public@dol.gov.
Earlier this year, in order to make LMRDA compliance more transparent for union members, officers, interested parties, and the public, OLMS began posting on its Web site closing letters issued at the conclusion of an I-CAP.
The closing letters and follow-up letters are posted in both HTML and PDF format. They are listed in alphabetical order by union, and then in chronological order under the union name. You can find a particular union quickly by using your browser's "find" function.
