This qualitative research report presents data on factors leading to the prevalence of child labor in Timor-Leste. These factors include cultural norms, gender disparities, and poverty. This report presents the findings from a series of interviews with returned Bangladeshi migrant workers with recent experience working in the garment sector of Mauritius in an effort to understand the nature and characteristics of forced labor vulnerability in the interview population. Interviewers analyzed respondents' experiences according to a set of ILO forced labor indicators. Findings include a prevalence of reported forced labor, exploitative fees charged by labor agents as a condition of employment, deceptive recruiting and remuneration processes, and workers having received inadequate medical care.

This summary report presents findings and recommendations following a comprehensive study commissioned by ILO1 to understand the impact that COVID-19 has and will continue to have upon the incidence and dynamics of child labour in Myanmar. Fieldwork was conducted remotely from Yangon and incorporated 6 focal states and regions as identified by ILO: Ayeyarwady Region, Bago Region, Kayin State, Mon State, Shan State and Yangon Region. All fieldwork took place between July 2020 –and January 2021.

This study seeks to understand, from a gender perspective, the ways that families' living conditions, the labor trajectories of adults, and the gendered division of labor in households influence the relationship to work formed by boys, girls, and adolescents (niños, niñas, y adolescentes (NNyA)), as well as  expectations regarding their future job opportunities.

These dynamics are analyzed using case studies of households in the Metropolitan Area of ​​Buenos Aires in 2020, the first full year of the COVID-19 pandemic and a year in which the economy and employment were in crisis.
