The following report describes the results of a follow-up impact evaluation survey of a child labor prevention program (The Extended School Hours program) in Bolivia. The Extended Hours program was designed to increase school persistence by helping children who were struggling in their studies, while also reducing the number of hours children worked by keeping them engaged in educational support activities. The central objective of this research study is to understand the forms of forced labor and human trafficking for the purpose of labor exploitation, in the triple border area between Peru, Brazil and Colombia.

This investigation documents presence of forced labor in logging camps, which evidences debt bondage, threats and punishments in the workplace, among others, and shows the presence of an extensive -informal and precarious- recruitment system concentrated in river ports. Sustained in interviews with workers and ex-workers, the field work carried out in the triple border allows to understand the precariousness of a scenario crossed by illegal economies, a porous control system and a wide informal dynamic.
