National Anti-Slavery Day: The Dysfunction of The Special Courts Dealing with Slavery Cases - Description of a presentation on "Challenges of the implementation of Law 2015-031" given by Magistrate Bâ Aliou, President of the Special Criminal Court of Nema in charge of slavery cases.  This event -- National Anti-Slavery Day -- was celebrated on 6 March 2017 in Kiffa, Mauritania.  It was sponsored by the Association of Mayors of Assaba in collaboration with the International Labour Office (ILO).

This assessment of the Labor Inspectorate was conducted to contribute to a better understanding of the legislative, social and administrative environment in which Inspectors function, and the challenges they face in their day‐to‐day work. Information gathered from desk research and interviews with key stakeholders revealed common themes that inform the recommendations in this assessment. This assessment provides an overview of sectors in which child labor is most prevalent, an overview of the legal and policy framework relevant to addressing child labor, an overview pertaining to the activities of the Labor Inspectorate and recommendations to improve their response to child labor, and information on different actors' activities to address child labor.

Aba Roli: The American Bar Ready to Train Paralegal Mayors in Assaba - The American Bar Association was strongly present in Kiffa during the celebration of the day of March 6 dedicated to the fight against slavery and slavery-like practices. The Association of Mayors of Assaba, the  organizer of the day, took advantage of the presence of two representatives of The American Bar Association to request paralegal training for its members newly invested with a mission: popularizing and sensitizing their constituents on Law 2015-031 criminalizing slavery...

A news article (titled "National Day Against Slavery: Assaba Mobilizes Around The Criminalization Law") describing an conference held by the Association of Mayors of Assaba, in coordination with the International Labour Office (ILO), held on March 6, 2017 -- the annual International Day against Slavery.  This event informed attendees about Law 2015-031, a new piece of Mauritanian legislation imposing criminal penalties for offenses related to forced and child labor.

This is a mission report that lays out the BRIDGE project's objectives and the Nepal mission's findings update. The objectives of the mission are - to provide orientation about the procedures and rules/regulations for implementing the Implementation Agreement (IA) that ILO had signed with the four project partners; to receive first hand information on beneficiary selection for the livelihood programs in Kanchanpur and Bajura districts; and to visit/meet project sites/the beneficiaries of the livelihood program in Kanchanpur district.

This is a report on a workshop that was led in Mauritania by the Ministry of Relations with Parliament and Civil Society in partnership with the International Labor Organization (ILO). The workshop focused on developing the key messages for their roadmap to the eradication of contemporary forms of slavery, including an action plan for implementation.

This report provides information on beneficiaries after the WEKEZA project, including changes from the baseline study in household characteristics and knowledge of and attitudes toward child labor, as well as  information on the extent to which children aged 5 to17 remained engaged in child  labor. The  findings  are  presented with the findings of the baseline survey conducted in September  2013 and with the desired impacts on targeted beneficiaries. The report also  explains how each objective contributed to the overall achievement of the project. Of note, Appendix 2 in the document has been removed for privacy purposes. 

Endline study for the ARCH project, which assesses measurable changes that occurred throughout the lifespan of the project and compares the findings with those from the baseline survey. The endline survey provides improved understanding of the outcomes of project activities, changes that transpired in the prevalence of child labor in project areas, and assessed possible impacts of the project interventions on the project’s direct beneficiaries.

This document describes the compelling business interests of private sector enterprises operating in Liberia to help support the elimination of child labor. This document will; provide a narrative of the current engagement of the private sector in reducing and/or eliminating child labor; describe the root causes of child labor in the marketplace; identify various interventions to help mitigate child labor; highlight the benefits to private sector companies through the elimination of child labor; and recommend next steps, collaboration partners, and engagement opportunities.

This document presents Burkina Faso's 2018-2020 operational action plan to address the worst forms of child labor. The operational action plan is structured as follows: i) a brief presentation of the National Strategy to Combat the Worst Forms of Child Labor (SN-PFTE); (ii) an overview of the financing for the SN-PFTE action plan; (iii) an overview of the implementation and monitoring-evaluation strategy; iv) conditions for success, v) major risks, vi) a matrix of the SN-PFTE 2018-2020 Operational Action Plan.
