Occupational Health and Safety Program in the Tea Sector of Rwanda

This document outlines a six step do-it-yourself process for planning, implementing, and evaluating a Comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) Program in tea sector focusing on the vulnerability of young workers. A model of the six steps is outlined in PART I, while the detailed program is described in PART II. This document also provides an effective monitoring and evaluation of an OSH program in PART III while other OSH program resources are described in PART IV. These resources include worksheets, progress checklists, and information on how the Rwandese Federation of Tea Cooperatives (FERWACOTHE), Ministry of Labor and Public Services (MIFOTRA) or any other partner can help young workers to manage occupational hazards in their workplaces themselves. |

The purpose of the assessment was to gain an understanding of the inspectorate’s mandate and authority, as well as its resources, management structure and overall ability to enforce national laws and meet international obligations as they pertain to child labor. Information gleaned from the assessment will be used to develop tools and a training program on eliminating child labor for inspectors and other relevant personnel, such as trainers, managers and those working within the Child Labor Elimination Section at Nepal’s Department of Labor. The second chapter, General Presentation of the Findings of the Assessment, is related to the results of interviews whose synthesis makes up the third chapter, Discussion of the Findings. Eliminating Hazardous Child Labour and Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental Risks. A manual for agents of change in cocoa communities in Ghana.

A manual produced by the ILO's International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (ILO-IPEC) in collaboration with the General Agricultural Workers' Union (GAWU of GTUC) to serve as an essential training tool for workers in the rural communities, especially farmers, to promote and ensure safety at the work place. It is one of IPEC's strategies in working with workers' representatives and employers' organizations to help ensure that work is safe for all. The production of this farmer-friendly manual fits under a new generation of ILO-IPEC projects in West Africa namely “Towards Child Labour-Free Cocoa Communities in d'Ivoire and Ghana through Integrated Area-Based Approach” financed by the United States Department of Labor and “Combating Child Labour in Cocoa-Growing Communities in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire” financed by the Global Issues Group (GIG). |

A manual intended for extension officers in their engagement with farmers, farm workers and farmer groups to facilitate their understanding of the three components of this manual; Unit 1: Understanding the Concepts of Child Labour, Unit 2: Occupational Safety, Health and Environment (OSH&E) in the Agriculture Sector of Ghana, and Unit 3: The Role of Agriculture Extension Officers in Implementing the Ghana Child Labour Monitoring System (GCLMS). Under each unit, the trainer is given basic notes on the objectives for the unit, expected outputs, sessions and duration, preparation, materials required, methodology, procedure, evaluation, and key messages. The units are also supported with a resource section to furnish the trainer with key information that will enhance their capability to facilitate the sessions. |

The State Action Plan provides the roadmap for the implementation of the National Policy on the Elimination of Child Labour in Ogun State through a variety of implementation strategies such as awareness raising and resource mobilization. The second section of the document describes the policy environment, existing gaps and recommended interventions. The section also highlights the achievements, gaps and recommended actions to be taken.
