Methodologies to address child labor from the Municipalities: The case of Jardín América - This document presents the experience of the Municipal Model for the Prevention and Eradication of Child Labor in the period 2020-2021, offering elements for reflection to those who are interested in scaling it up or replicating it in other municipalities with the proper contextualization.

Toolkit developed as part of Objective 3 of CAPSA Project, designed to assist Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in implementing adequate due diligence and responsible business conduct towards prevention and elimination or abolition of child labour. The toolkit provides SMEs with practical guidelines on how businesses can be involved in child labour and how they could contribute to its elimination.

This report presents the joint research findings and conclusions on child labour, forced labour and human trafficking linked to global supply chains from the ILO, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), under the aegis of Alliance 8.7. It is the first attempt by international organizations to measure child labour, forced labour and human trafficking in global supply chains.

The 2015 National Child Labour Survey (NCLS) was a nationwide survey designed to collect data on demographic and socio-economic characteristics of working children aged 5-17 years.The 2015 NCLS was supported by the International Labour Organization (ILO) through its Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work Branch (FUNDAMENTALS).The 2015 NCLS was conducted by the National Statistical Office (NSO) in collaboration with Ministry of Labour, Youth and Manpower Development (MoLYMD) and Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development (MoAIWD).

This document outlines a six step do-it-yourself process for planning, implementing, and evaluating a Comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) Program in tea sector focusing on the vulnerability of young workers. A model of the six steps is outlined in PART I, while the detailed program is described in PART II. This document also provides an effective monitoring and evaluation of an OSH program in PART III while other OSH program resources are described in PART IV. These resources include worksheets, progress checklists, and information on how the Rwandese Federation of Tea Cooperatives (FERWACOTHE), Ministry of Labor and Public Services (MIFOTRA) or any other partner can help young workers to manage occupational hazards in their workplaces themselves.

This Manual first outlines the various hazards and risks in the tea sector of Rwanda, and then presents modules for addressing these hazards and risks based on the participatory risk assessment approach. The training is targeted at tea growers’ representatives, tea cooperatives’ representatives, tea factories’ representatives, and members of the Federation of Rwandan Tea Cooperatives (FERWACOTHE) as well as other key stakeholders in the tea sector such as NGOs, Winrock staff, district and central labor inspectorate staff. The Manual is designed primarily for improving the working conditions of tea growers, especially young workers between 16 and 17 years old. The training can be delivered through multiple partners and platforms, including with the support of Winrock as well as the Department of Labor within MIFOTRA.

The overall objective of this research is to assess the compliance of tea factories and tea cooperatives with the national and international occupational health and safety (OSH) standards focusing on particularities of young workers. The research findings aim to inform national OSH guidelines in the tea sector in Rwanda.

This report is the result of an assessment conducted in tea-growing areas of 12 districts across the country in order to identify enforcement organs and institutions and analyze the effectivity of the labor law enforcement system. This document is structured into three chapters: the first chapter, Introduction, is descriptive of the background, the objectives and the methodology of the assessment. The second chapter, General Presentation of the Findings of the Assessment, is related to the results of interviews whose synthesis makes up the third chapter, Discussion of the Findings. These three chapters are followed by Conclusions and Recommendations.

The document is an Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) tool to improve the working conditions of young workers of 16 and 17 years of age in the tea sector of Rwanda. It aims to help young workers in tea sector to achieve two main objectives: prevention of main risks associated to OSH hazards in tea plantations and tea factories; and performing on-site management of OSH accidents while waiting for support.

This report is a prevalence study on child labor in Rwanda’s tea growing areas. The primary objective of the study was to estimate the prevalence of working children and hazardous work in tea production and to better understand child labor dynamics, focusing on tea-growing areas of the country. This study also serves as a baseline context for the Rwanda Education Alternatives for Children in Tea-growing Areas project (REACH-T) and is the first large scale survey aimed at estimating child labor rates in the tea-growing areas in Rwanda.
