US Department of Labor honors Lalitha Natarajan as recipient of 2023 Iqbal Masih Award for the Elimination of Child Labor

WASHINGTON The U.S. Department of Labor today announced that Lalitha Natarajan, an activist in the fight against child labor and modern slavery in India, is the recipient of the 2023 Iqbal Masih Award for the Elimination of Child Labor. The award was presented at the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai, India.

US Department of Labor recovers more than $171K in back pay, benefits for 11 workers shortchanged by Florida construction subcontractor

LABELLE, FL – Federal investigators have found that a subcontractor employed during construction of a new reservoir pump station on the Caloosahatchee River in Hendry County failed to pay 11 electricians the correct wage rate for the federally supported project, denying them $171,998 in wages and benefits.

Federal investigators find trench lacked required cave-in protection that could have prevented Burr Ridge contractor’s fatal injuries

BUFFALO GROVE, IL ‒ Down about seven feet from the surface, the 27-year-old worker of a Burr Ridge plumbing contracting business was fixing a residential water line damaged during excavation when the trench’s walls collapsed, crushing him fatally in December 2022 at a Buffalo Grove work site. Another employee in the trench with him at the time escaped the trench unharmed.
