US Department of Labor to host outreach event in southeastern Ohio on benefits for current, former nuclear weapons industry workers
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor will host an information session for current and former nuclear weapons workers and their families employed at covered facilities on the benefits available under the federal Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act on Aug. 16, 2023, in Hamilton, Ohio.
“The U.S. Department of Labor encourages all former nuclear weapons workers and their families in the southeastern area of Ohio to attend this event and learn more about benefits available to them because of their work in the nuclear weapons industry,” said Division of Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Director Rachel Pond. “Our staff will be on-hand to assist attendees in filing claims or provide information about existing claims.”
Department representatives will be available to answer questions and offer services on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will be open to the public and no pre-registration is needed to attend.

The department’s Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act provides lump sum compensation and medical benefits to current and former nuclear weapons workers whose illness is the result of working in the nuclear weapons industry. The program has paid almost $1.6 billion in compensation and medical benefits to claimants living in Ohio, and more than $23.8 billion nationwide.
