Judge orders Silicon Valley tech company to pay workers more than $160K in back minimum wage, overtime back pay and damages

SAN FRANCISCO – A federal court has entered a consent judgment that orders a Silicon Valley electronics manufacturer to pay more than $80,000 in minimum wage and overtime back pay and an equal, additional amount in damages to its workers after the U.S. Department of Labor discovered violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act.  

Nearly $8,000 in civil money penalties were also assessed against the employer.

Worker’s fall from Newton rooftop could have been prevented: OSHA

ANDOVER, Mass. – Two employees of Ned Stevens Gutter Cleaning and General Contracting of Massachusetts were doing their job atop a roof at 19 Columbus St. in Newton on Nov. 29, 2015, when one of them fell. He initially a hit a lower roof 11 feet below then fell another 15 feet to the ground and was injured. An inspection by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration found that his fall was preventable if his employer ensured the use of proper and effective safeguards.

US Labor Department, Invesco Trust in Atlanta reach settlement to compensate investors for undisclosed losses

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration has reached a settlement agreement with a subsidiary of Invesco Ltd., an Atlanta-based investment management firm.

Invesco Trust Company agreed to pay a total of $10.27 million to settle the department's claims that they violated the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report

In the week ending April 23, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 257,000, an increase of 9,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 247,000 to 248,000. The 4-week moving average was 256,000, a decrease of 4,750 from the previous week's revised average. This is the lowest level for this average since December 8, 1973 when it was 252,250. The previous week's average was revised up by 250 from 260,500 to 260,750.
