1. Purpose.To inform states that OMB has approved the extension of data collection to support the Benefits Timeliness and Quality (BTQ) program.
2. Background. The data collected under the BTQ program is used to assess the timeliness and quality of states' performance and administrative actions concerning unemployment insurance (UI) benefits operations and to promote performance improvement. The information is collected monthly and quarterly as required for the UI Required Reports system and for UI Performs, the performance management system for the UI program.
3. OMB Approval. This reporting instruction has been approved under the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, under number 1205-0359 through November 30, 2007. Persons are not required to respond to this collection of information unless it displays a currently valid OMB number. Respondent's obligation to reply is mandatory (SSA, Sec. 303 (a)(6)).
4. Burden Disclosure. The annual public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated to average 720.15 hours per state for all of the reports in the BTQ program, including the time for reviewing instructions, conducting quality reviews, and searching existing data sources.
