OMB Approval. This request for information has been approved under the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, under OMB Number 2305-0333 which expires September 30, 1996. Public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated to average three hours per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, reviewing the existing information and then reporting any changes which need to be made. Send comments regarding this burden estimate or any other aspect of this collection of information, including suggestions for reducing this burden, to OIRM Policy, U.S. Department of Labor, Room N-1301, 200 Constitution Ave. N.W., Washington, DC 20210; and to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, Paperwork Reduction Project 2305-0333, Office of Management and Budget, Washington, D.C. 20503.
Background. The first Compendium was published in July, 1989. It was updated and republished in July 1990. Department of Labor and SESA staff members have reported that the Compendium has been useful in a number of areas and that it should be updated from time to time to ensure that the information contained in it is current. The information has been used to respond to a variety of inquiries. It has also been helpful to SESAs for planning purposes because other SESAs using a particular type of procedure or technology can be identified and then contacted for specifics about the advantages and disadvantages of a procedure or technology.
Since about three years have passed since the information for the 1990 Update was collected, it is time to collect and publish a more current version of the Compendium. The SESAs are being asked to provide information on what changes need to be made to the tables in the Compendium to reflect their current operations, organizations and relationships. This information will be compiled and an updated Compendium will be published as early as possible in 1994. The cooperation of each SESA is needed to make this updating effort successful in providing the UI community with an accurate and current Compendium. It is the hope of the Unemployment Insurance Service that the 1994 version of the Compendium will be even more useful than the previous versions.
Action Required. SESA Administrators are requested to have appropriate staff perform the following tasks:
(a) Review each page of the copy of the Compendium, which will be forwarded under separate cover, and indicate on each page any change that needs to be made with respect to their State or that no changes need to be made.
(1) In red ink, line out any incorrect information with respect to their State and/or;
(2) In red ink, print their State name in the appropriate column, place an "X" or a "Yes" or "No" in the appropriate column(s) beside their State name, or write in a brief response that describes how a function or activity is accomplished in their State.
(b) Return the entire Compendium to the Unemployment Insurance Service in the envelope that has been provided by March 1, 1994.
Inquiries. Questions regarding this directive should be directed to the appropriate Regional Office.
