SUBJECT : "Succeeding in the World of Work: Living Without Welfare" Brochure

  1. Purpose. To announce the release of the new brochure entitled, "Succeeding in the World of Work: Living Without Welfare".

  2. Background. The Bureau of Labor Statistics in collaboration with the Department of Labor's (DOL) Office of Welfare-to-Work (WtW), has developed the attached brochure entitled, "Succeeding in the World of Work: Living Without Welfare". A draft version of the brochure was featured recently at a number of national conferences. It was well received as a piece to be distributed to WtW clients as they first enter employment. The brochure, specifically targeted to welfare recipients entering employment, addresses issues such as doing well at work, managing work and home life, and finding a better job.

  3. Availability/Distribution. The brochure is available on the WtW website at http://wtw.doleta.gov and can be downloaded for local distribution. In addition, the brochure is available on disk from your Regional WtW contact person (see attached list). Disk format includes text in MS Word, and graphics in Corel Draw 7.0. Agencies unable to open the file in these formats are encouraged to take the disk to-any printshop facility with the necessary capability. DOL does not anticipate releasing the brochure in any other disk format.

State and local entities may adapt the brochure by replacing the references to the Bureau of Labor Statistics at the bottom of the first page with their own name and/or logo. This brochure is in the public domain, and may be reproduced without prior permission.

  4. Action. States are asked to share this information with State and local entities operating WtW and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families employment programs.

  5. Inquiries. Please contact your Regional WtW contacts.

  6. Attachments. "Succeeding in the World of Work: Living Without Welfare" brochure and a list of WtW Regional Contacts.
