SUBJECT	:	Dissemination of the SPIR Data Book for Program Year 1996

1. Purpose. To notify the States of the availability of a new publication -- Job Training Partnership Act 1996 Program Statistics (SPIR Data Book for Program Year 1996).

2. Background. The SPIR Data Book contains information about the activities, participant characteristics, and outcomes of JTPA programs nationwide. An insertion describes who may be interested in the book's content and how the book serves as a reference tool for program overseers, program planners and stakeholders. For the first time the national edition has been bound for ease of handling.

3. Dissemination. This year's national edition has been mailed under separate cover to program stakeholders and State liaisons. Three copies of each of the State data books were also distributed to the State liaisons.

   A returnable, self-addressed postcard was also included for individuals interested in obtaining the companion CD Rom disk containing the national data set, along with a complete set of State data books and a technical assistance guide for setting performance standards.

   Please note that the SPIR data book is available on the website at http://www.ttrc.doleta.gov/ETA/research/nation.htm.

4. Action Required. State Liaisons are requested to distribute these books to appropriate officials and local service delivery area directors within the State.
