SUBJECT	:	Involving Employers in Training: Best Practices, Case Studies, and Literature Review

1. Purpose. To announce the publication and distribution of Involving Employers in Training: Best Practices, Case Studies, and Literature Review, in three separately bound reports.

2. Background. nvolving Employers in Training: Best Practices, Case Studies, and Literature Review, is a three-part report in support of the U.S. Department of Labor's (DOL) efforts to disseminate information about effective strategies and practices for training and retraining the American workforce. The literature review synthesizes findings from employment and training literature on employer-based training (EBT) programs and serves as a prelude to the 17 individual case studies of U.S. companies sponsoring EBT programs summarized and presented in a separate document. The findings from the seventeen case studies are combined and presented in a best practices guide. Nine of these EBT programs were established and operated by firms in partnership with the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) system. The remaining eight were mostly privately-funded by companies sponsoring the training and were non-JTPA affiliated.

   This three-part report represents the latest effort on the part of the Employment and Training Administration to help organizations better understand their strengths and weaknesses in customizing training programs to meet the needs of both firms and workers.
