US Labor Department recovers nearly $115K in back wages, damages after investigation finds overtime violations at Swedesboro production facility

SWEDESBORO, NJ – JP Technology Inc. operates a hafnium crystal bar production facility in Swedesboro 24 hours a day. At the facility, many employees work 12-hour shifts, seven days a week. A recent federal investigation found the employer failed to pay some of these employees any overtime pay, a violation of federal wage laws.

Long Island hotel management companies to pay $210,000 in wages, penalties after US Department of Labor finds H-2B guest worker program violations

NEW YORK Employees of two commonly owned and operated East Hampton, New York, hotel management companies found their work was no vacation when their employers – Dune Resorts LLC and Ocean Bay Management Inc. – violated several requirements of the H-2B Visa program, resulting in direct job losses to 39 U.S. workers and underpayments to 59 H-2B employees.

Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report

In the week ending September 11, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 332,000, an increase of 20,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 2,000 from 310,000 to 312,000. The 4-week moving average was 335,750, a decrease of 4,250 from the previous week's revised average. This is the lowest level for this average since March 14, 2020 when it was 225,500. The previous week's average was revised up by 500 from 339,500 to 340,000.

US Department of Labor initiative seeks to reduce deaths, injuries, protect workers in New England’s tree, landscaping operations

BOSTON In Connecticut, a tree branch contacted a live high-voltage power line as a worker in an aerial lift cut it, electrocuting him. In Massachusetts, a falling tree branch struck and killed a worker cutting down oak trees, while a falling tree limb struck an elevated bucket lift, ejecting the worker whose fall was fatal. In nearby Rhode Island, a log conveyor rolled over a worker performing repairs, crushing and killing him.
