US Labor Department launches interactive website on rights and responsibilities in union officer elections

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor today unveiled a new interactive website, or Union Elections Advisor, to help millions of union members, union officers, union election committees and candidates in union elections better understand their rights and responsibilities under the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act. The site is http://www.dol.gov/elaws/unionelections.htm.

The Labor Department's Office of Labor-Management Standards administers and enforces most provisions of the LMRDA.

Vincent and Vincent’s Apartment Washer Service Inc. in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington for allegedly using employee and employer contributions owed to the company’s savings incentive match plan for employees individual retirement account plan for the benefit of the company, in violation of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

US Department of Labor improves and expands Site Exposure Matrices website by adding new information about toxic substances at nuclear weapons facilities

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor today announced that it soon will release to the public a large portion of a greatly enhanced version of its Site Exposure Matrices website. The new version will contain more data and provide additional ways to look for information regarding toxic substances at U.S. Department of Energy nuclear weapons facilities covered under Part E of the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act.

US Labor Department announces release of $126.8 million in unemployment insurance modernization incentive funds to Maryland

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today certified for release $126,750,124 in unemployment insurance modernization incentive funds to the state of Maryland. Maryland qualified for its full share of the funds available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act by adding new provisions to its UI law that assist recent entrants to the workforce, part-time workers and individuals who are upgrading their skills.

US Labor Departments OSHA requests information on exposure to infectious agents in health care settings

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration requests information and comment on occupational exposure to infectious agents in settings where health care is provided, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, school clinics and correctional facilities, and settings such as laboratories that handle potentially infectious biological materials, medical examiner offices and mortuaries.

SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA In the week ending May 1, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 444,000, a decrease of 7,000 from the previous week's revised figure of 451,000. The 4-week moving average was 458,500, a decrease of 4,750 from the previous week's revised average of 463,250.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 3.6 percent for the week ending April 24, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 3.6 percent.

6 Kentucky coal mines forced to halt production during inspection blitz

ARLINGTON, Va. – The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration today announced that six underground coal mines in Kentucky received numerous citations and closure orders by federal inspectors as a result of the nationwide impact inspections that took place last month. Each of these operations was forced to suspend production until the violations were corrected.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor's Veterans' Employment and Training Service today announced a $4 million competition to fund at least 12 Incarcerated Veterans Transition Program grants designed to assist eligible veterans who are currently incarcerated and/or transitioning out of the justice system who are at risk of homelessness.
