The U.S. Department of Labor has negotiated a settlement of its lawsuit against Columbia, S.C.-based C.W. Haynes and Company, Inc. and its president. Defendants are required to pay the company’s profit sharing plan $1,093,172.97 for the plan’s 40 percent interest in the Folly Fontaine Commerce Center partnership and the fair market value of the note payable to the plan by the Fontaine partnership.

The U.S. Department of Labor has filed lawsuits in four states seeking overtime pay for more than 200 workers on chicken-catching crews at poultry processing plants in Alabama, Mississippi, North Carolina and Texas.

Seattle - The U.S. Department of Labor announced today that Consent Judgments were signed this week in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington, Tacoma, which formalize negotiated settlements affecting management of the J.D. The U.S. Department of Labor has obtained a settlement agreement providing for Nationsbank of Georgia, N.A., a subsidiary of Nationsbank of Charlotte, N.C., to distribute over $5 million in cash and stock to the accounts of certain participants covered by the Polaroid Employee Stock Ownership Plan.

Under the agreement, the bank will distribute the cash and stock to participants covered by the plan as of April 1989.

Harold and Sandra Kaplan, trustees of two employee benefit plans for a Long Island company, pleaded guilty, respectively, to embezzling from the company’s defined benefit and 401(k) plans and for failing to maintain required documents for both plans, in violation of federal pension law. Their pleas were entered on May 7 before Judge Arthur D. Spatt in the U.S. District Court in Uniondale, N.Y.
