Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report

In the week ending November 12, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 222,000, a decrease of 4,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 225,000 to 226,000. The 4-week moving average was 221,000, an increase of 2,000 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 250 from 218,750 to 219,000.

NEW YORK – The U.S. Department of Labor issued the following statement on today’s sentencing of George Laufenberg, former plan administrator of the Northeast Carpenters Benefit Funds, who pleaded guilty on June 3, 2022, to embezzling approximately $140,000 and making false statements to the department.

US Department of Labor, LAZ Parking California reach agreement to resolve alleged hiring discrimination at Southern California locations

SAN DIEGO – The U.S. Department of Labor has entered into a settlement agreement with LAZ Parking California LLC and will pay $320,000 in back wages and interest to 678 affected job seekers to resolve allegations of race- and gender-based hiring discrimination affecting Black and female applicants at its Southern California facilities.

US Department of Labor announces nationwide effort to prepare students at Job Corps centers for Registered Apprenticeship programs

WASHINGTON – As the nation marks National Apprenticeship Week, the U.S. Department of Labor today announced an initiative to expand its pre-apprenticeship opportunities for Job Corps students and connect them to Registered Apprenticeship programs.

Chicago-area contractor faces $277K in fines for repeated failures to protect roofing employees from exposure to deadly fall hazards

CALUMET CITY, IL Three times in four months, federal safety inspectors observed workers employed by a Calumet City roofing contractor exposed to deadly fall hazards at job sites in Lake Zurich and Wheeling. In each instance, the company’s foremen on site failed to protect workers from known hazards as they did residential framing work on new homes under construction.

US Department of Labor cites two contractors for demolition, asbestos hazards after mezzanine collapse at former South Boston power plant

BRAINTREE, MA On May 5, 2022, an employee of an Everett demolition contractor lost his legs when a concrete mezzanine platform on the west wall of a building at the former Boston Edison power plant in South Boston collapsed during demolition and asbestos abatement operations. Two other workers suffered injuries as well.
