U.S. Department of Labor Honors Organizations for Creating
Opportunities in the Workplace

WASHINGTON – For their efforts to foster workplace diversity, eleven companies and organizations were honored today by the U.S. Department of Labor at an annual awards ceremony hosted by the department’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP).

Three awards—the Secretary of Labor’s Opportunity Award, Exemplary Volunteer Efforts (EVE), and Exemplary Public Interest Contributions (EPIC)—were presented to recognize excellence and leadership in the implementation of effective equal employment opportunity standards.

U.S. Labor Department to Provide Technical Assistance to China on
Labor Law, Worker Rights and Mine Safety

WASHINGTON—U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao released two grants today totaling $6.4 million to help worker protection and mine safety and health in China.

Deputy Secretary of Labor Cameron Findlay said, “The Administration is committed to improving workers rights globally, and we look forward to working with our partners in China to enhance the rule of law and improve compliance with internationally recognized workers’ rights and labor standards.” Findlay serves as the Department of Labor’s appointee to the joint Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC).

Chao today announced $14.4 million in federal grants that will support the President's New Freedom Initiative goal to integrate Americans with disabilities into the workforce. Thirty-eight grants, ranging from $83,000 to $1 million, have been awarded by the Office of Disability Employment Policy.

Grizzard Sworn-in as the First Assistant Secretary for Disability
Employment Policy

WASHINGTON – A new chapter in Department of Labor history was opened today when Secretary Elaine L. Chao administered the oath of office to W. Roy Grizzard. Grizzard is the first person in the department to hold the position of Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy. The Office of Disability Employment Policy was authorized by Congress in the fiscal 2001 Labor Department appropriation.
