In a Nov. 8, 2023, letter to unemployment insurance systems across the nation, the department’s Employment and Training Administration shared best practices for evaluating and enhancing equitable access through all stages in the unemployment insurance claim process to improve customer experience and state workload efficiency.

Unemployment Insurance Weekly Claims Report

In the week ending November 4, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 217,000, a decrease of 3,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 3,000 from 217,000 to 220,000. The 4-week moving average was 212,250, an increase of 1,500 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 750 from 210,000 to 210,750.

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su issued the following statement on the October 2023 Employment Situation report. 

“Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the American economy added 150,000 jobs in October, and the unemployment rate was 3.9 percent, marking 21 straight months of a jobless rate below 4 percent. These numbers reflect an economy that is growing at a healthy and sustainable pace, with an average monthly gain of 204,000 jobs over the past three months.
