BOSTON – The operator of two Framingham area pizza restaurants must pay $307,704.86 – $153,852 in back wages and an equal amount in liquidated damages – to 14 employees after the U.S. Department of Labor obtained summary judgment in federal court.

DOTHAN, AL – A shoe store in Dothan required 16- and 17-year-old employees to drive at night as part of their job responsibilities and place trash in an active compactor, in violation of federal child labor restrictions. These violations led to $37,280 in civil money penalties.

MANCHESTER, NH – The U.S. Department of Labor recovered $13,125 in back wages for four employees at a New Hampshire ice skating rink and a total of three employers paid $42,921 in civil money penalties after investigations found they violated federal child labor and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

AUBURN, AL – Following an investigation and federal court order, the U.S. Department of Labor recovered $26,496 in back wages and liquidated damages from a personal injury law firm in Auburn, Alabama, that failed to pay overtime to 42 workers.

KANSAS CITY, KS – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division routinely collects data to help the division establish accurate prevailing wage rates and fringe benefits, required by the Davis-Bacon and Related Acts. The division is currently surveying active heavy construction projects from Jan. 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2020 in any of Kansas’ metropolitan counties.

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC – Restaurant servers work hard and put their safety at risk throughout the pandemic. They depend on diners’ tips to earn a living wage, but 10 workers at a Surfside Beach restaurant found their wages reduced illegally by the establishment’s manager and owner who required servers to share tips with them.
