U.S. Department of Labor to Offer Families First Coronavirus Response Act Webinars to Educate Employees and Employers

ATLANTA, GA – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will offer two joint webinars on June 10, 2020, to educate employers and employees in the Southeast on the paid sick leave, and expanded family and medical leave benefits available under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and whistleblower protections.

The webinars will provide information on the requirements of the law, including eligibility, coverage, qualifying reasons and how to file a whistleblower complaint.

The FFCRA helps the U.S. combat and defeat the workplace effects of the coronavirus by giving tax credits to all American businesses with fewer than 500 employees to provide employees with paid leave for the employee’s own health needs, or to care for family members. The law enables employers to keep their workers on their payrolls, while at the same time ensuring that workers do not have to choose between their paychecks and the public health measures needed to combat the virus.

OSHA enforces the whistleblower provisions of more than 20 statutes protecting employees who report violations of various airline, commercial motor carrier, consumer product, environmental, financial reform, food safety, motor vehicle safety, healthcare reform, nuclear, pipeline, public transportation agency, railroad, maritime, and securities laws.
