U.S. Department of Labor Investigation Results in Riverside, California, School Paying $134,046 to Resolve Wage Violations

RIVERSIDE, CA – Carnegie Schools-Riverside - located in Riverside, California - has paid $134,046 owed to 75 employees after a U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) investigation found the employer violated the minimum wage and overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

WHD investigators found that due to several missed payrolls, the employer failed to pay teachers, substitute teachers, coaches, administrative aides, and cafeteria workers for the hours they worked resulting in minimum wage violations under the FLSA. The missed payrolls also created FLSA overtime violations in instances where employees who had worked more than 40 hours in the effected workweeks were among those unpaid.

“Employees depend on receiving the wages they have rightfully earned,” said Danny Pasquil, Wage and Hour Division District Director in West Covina. “We are available and eager to provide assistance to employers to help them understand the law and avoid violations. We encourage employers to contact the Wage and Hour Division by phone, online, or to attend any of our outreach events for assistance and to learn more about their responsibilities.”

Employers who discover overtime or minimum wage violations may self-report and resolve those violations without litigation through the PAID program. For more information about the FLSA and other laws enforced by the Division, contact the Division’s toll-free helpline at 866-4US-WAGE (487-9243). Information is also available at https://www.dol.gov/whd including a search tool to use if you think you may be owed back wages collected by the Division.
