U.S. Department of Labor Investigation Results in Northern California Company Paying $62,672 due to Workers for Unpaid Overtime
SACRAMENTO, CA – Bay Area Underpinning Inc., a Northern California foundation repair company, will pay $62,672 to 16 employees after a U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division (WHD) investigation found overtime and recordkeeping violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
WHD investigators found that the owners of Bay Area Underpinning Inc. failed to pay employees for work time they spent driving between their last work site of the day and a required return to the employer’s premises to return company-owned trucks. Failure to record and to pay for this time resulted in overtime and recordkeeping violations under the FLSA.
“Employees depend on receiving all the wages they have rightfully earned,” said Patricia Canites, Assistant District Director in Sacramento. “Wage violations can be avoided when employers understand the rules. We encourage employers to contact us confidentially for guidance. The Division offers many tools to help employers comply.”
Bay Area Underpinning Inc. repairs foundations on commercial buildings and residential structures.
