Assistance available for nuclear weapons workers at West Virginia event
Event: The U.S. Department of Labor will host an outreach event for current and former nuclear weapons workers in Huntington, West Virginia, on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016. Federal representatives will present information at the meeting, about the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act and the program’s available medical benefits.
The EEOICPA provides compensation and medical benefits to employees whose work in the nuclear weapons industry made them ill. Survivors of qualified workers may also be entitled to benefits.
After the presentation, Cleveland District Office and Portsmouth Resource Center staff will be on hand to help individuals file new claims and provide claimants with status updates on their existing claims.

To date, the program has paid $34.7 million in EEOICPA compensation and medical benefits to 305 West Virginia claimants, $7.4 million in compensation to 57 Huntington Pilot Plant claimants, and more than $12.8 billion nationwide.
