U.S. Department of Labor Cites Mississippi Company for Exposing Workers To Hazardous Energy, Equipment, and Other Hazards

NEW ALBANY, MS – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited Custom Nonwoven Inc., a subsidiary of Korea Synthetic Fiber, for willfully exposing its workers to multiple hazards. The New Albany-based company faces penalties of $220,544.

U.S. Department of Labor Cites Boise Construction Company For Trenching Violations

BOISE, ID – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited Alta Construction, Inc. for one willful and two serious violations after failing to follow safe trenching practices. OSHA proposed $106,000 in fines.

In May, OSHA inspected the company’s jobsite after receiving two complaints of unsafe trenching operations. Inspectors found employees inside a 7-feet deep trench without cave-in protection.

U.S. Department of Labor and New York Manufacturer Reach Settlement to Improve Safety and Health

NEW YORK, NY – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Acme Parts, Inc., of Brooklyn have reached a settlement agreement to improve Acme Parts’ workplace safety and health.

OSHA found high levels of lead throughout the facility presenting serious lead hazards to employees.  Workers who ingest or inhale lead are at risk of serious lead-induced health hazards, including hypertension; cardiovascular, kidney, and neurological diseases; adverse reproductive effects; and cancer.

U.S. Department of Labor and Massachusetts Packaging Company and Staffing Agencies Reach Agreements to Enhance Workplace Safeguards

SPRINGFIELD, MA – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Shield Packaging Co. Inc., ASI Staffing Group Corp., and Southern Mass Staffing have reached agreements to correct hazards and enhance safety following a May 2016 incident in which an employee was injected with a flammable propellant gas.

MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ – A South Jersey construction company owner with a long history of workplace safety violations was cited by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for exposing workers to serious scaffold hazards at a job site in Philadelphia. The owner, Vyacheslav Leshko faces $191,215 in proposed penalties.

MCDONOUGH, GA The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited Structural Subcontractors Service, LLC for exposing workers to fall hazards. The structural framing company, based in Birmingham, Alabama, faces proposed penalties totaling $102,669.

Pittsburgh Builder and OSHA Align to Promote Workplace Safety

ERIE, PA – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Pittsburgh-based P.J. Dick Corp. have established a strategic partnership to promote workplace safety and educate workers on construction hazards during construction of a new office building in Erie.

The project, which will build a seven-floor, 340,000-square-foot office building on French Street, will be occupied by Erie Insurance. It is expected to be completed by spring 2020.

OSHA and American Society of Safety Engineers Working Together To Provide Resources to Those Affected by Hurricane Harvey

HOUSTON, TX – The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) have partnered to organize and distribute protective equipment and other resources to those affected by Hurricane Harvey. OSHA Alliance to Promote Worker Safety and Health in Lehigh Valley

ALLENTOWN, PA – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), PA-OSHA Consultation Program, and HealthWorks’ Safety Peer Group – a consortium of Lehigh Valley area employers – have established an alliance to enhance workplace safety and health.

OSHA Finds Machine-Guarding, Noise Violations at Florida Bakery

MEDLEY, FL – Hometown Foods USA – a commercial bakery doing business as Bagelmania Inc. – faces $129,145 in proposed penalties from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) after investigators found workers at its Medley facility exposed to amputation, fire, and noise hazards.

OSHA cited the employer for 16 serious and other-than-serious safety and health violations after receiving a complaint alleging machine-guarding, forklift, and noise hazards.
