U.S. Department of Labor and PJ Dick Inc. Partner to Promote Worker Safety During Construction at West Virginia University Project

MORGANTOWN, WV – The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and PJ Dick Inc. have partnered to promote worker safety during the construction of Reynolds Hall – the future home to the new John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University – in Morgantown, West Virginia.

The partnership will focus on training employers and workers on fall, electrical, caught-in and struck-by hazards. OSHA and PJ Dick Inc. will work together to meet partnership goals by increasing employee training, implementing best work practices, creating site-specific written safety and health programs, hosting required safety meetings for contractors and subcontractors before the start of major work, and complying with applicable OSHA standards and regulations.

Builders expect to complete the 180,000-square-foot project in 2022.

Through the Strategic Partnership Program, OSHA works with employers, employees, professional and trade associations, labor organizations and other interested stakeholders to establish specific goals, strategies and performance measures to improve worker safety and health.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA's role is to ensure these conditions for America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, education, and assistance. The mission of the Department of Labor is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.
