U.S. Department of Labor Partners with Southeast’s Industry Leaders, Landscaping Employers to Sponsor Safety Stand-Down, April 29-30, 2019

ATLANTA, GA – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is partnering with the Associated General Contractors of Georgia Inc., and industry employers to sponsor safety stand-down events at worksites in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi, April 29-30, 2019, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. EDT.

The stand-downs will encourage employers to pause work voluntarily for one hour to conduct safety training with landscaping employees on common hazards, such as falls, being struck-by vehicles or flying debris, noise, electrical, heat exposure, and lawnmower turnovers.

“Employers who train their workers, and implement safety and health programs effectively reduce the risks of workers being injured on the job,” said OSHA Regional Administrator Kurt Petermeyer. “These educational events are valuable tools in helping to assure a safe workplace for everyone.”

The Agency developed a Regional Emphasis Program (REP) for Landscaping and Horticultural Services to reduce workplace fatalities and injuries in the landscaping industry.
