U.S. Department of Labor Cites Illinois Contractor For Exposing Workers to Falls

PALATINE, IL ‒ The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited Manuel Gallardo – operator of Palatine, Illinois-based Gallardo’s Construction Services Inc. – for exposing roofers to fall hazards. OSHA proposed penalties totaling $190,314. This is the 11th time since 2016 that OSHA has cited this company for fall hazards.

OSHA initiated an inspection after observing hazards at a company construction site in Mokena, Illinois. OSHA cited Gallardo for one willful, two repeated, and two serious violations for failing to protect employees from fall hazards, train employees on fall protection, ensure employees used safety glasses and hard hats, and for allowing employees to use an unsafe ladder.

Gallardo has 15 business days from receipt of citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
