U.S. Department of Labor Enters Partnership to Promote Safety During Illinois Courthouse Construction Project

JOLIET, IL– The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Gilbane Building Company signed a strategic partnership to promote worker safety and health during the construction of the Will County Courthouse. The Three Rivers Construction Alliance, Will and Grundy Counties Building Trades Council, and Illinois On-Site Consultation are also partners on the 10-story project to be completed in September 2020.

The partnership will address construction hazards such as falls, struck-by, caught-in, electrical safety, heat stress, silica exposure, material handling, ladder safety and noise hazards; educate employees and employers on best practices; and encourage worker participation in safety and health programs.

Through the Strategic Partnership Program, OSHA works with employers, employees, professional and trade associations, labor organizations, and other interested stakeholders to establish specific goals, strategies, and performance measures to improve worker safety and health.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA's role is to help ensure these conditions for America's working men and women by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, education, and assistance.
