OSHA Cites Two Omaha Roofing Contractors for Exposing Employees to Fall Hazards
OMAHA, NE – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has cited two Omaha-based roofing contractors for exposing employees to fall hazards at a residential site. Aspen Contractors faces $129,336 in proposed penalties, and Torres Roofing faces proposed penalties totaling $15,447.
OSHA inspectors found that Aspen Contracting failed to provide its employees with fall protection, and failed to ensure that the subcontractor, Torres Roofing, protected its employees from fall hazards. Additionally, OSHA inspectors found that Torres Roofing exposed workers to fall hazards, and allowed employees to use nail guns without eye protection.
“Working at heights of six feet or higher without fall protection puts workers at risk for serious or fatal injuries,” said OSHA Area Office Director Jeff Funke, in Omaha. “Employers are required to assess the hazards at their workplaces and implement appropriate measures to protect the safety and health of their employees.”
Both companies have 15 business days from receipt of its citations and penalties to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA’s area director, or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing safe and healthful workplaces for their employees. OSHA’s role is to ensure these conditions for America’s working men and women by setting and enforcing standards, and providing training, education and assistance.
