OSHA recognizes Workers’ Memorial Day

DALLAS – The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration will recognize Workers’ Memorial Day on April 28 by holding various events throughout the country.

American workers are the backbone of our nation’s prosperity and a focal point of President Trump’s “America First” agenda. With the recent increased growth in manufacturing, mining and construction industries, OSHA renews its commitment to making safety a priority through education, training and collaboration with American workers, businesses and state partners.

OSHA will honor those in North Texas who have been injured or lost their lives in the workplace, helping to support and strengthen our nation, with the following events:

• A ceremony where the names of  fallen workers will be read, and a moment of silence observed at Richland College in Garland from 11 a.m. to noon. During the ceremony, officials from OSHA and the Hispanic Contractors Association de Tejas will renew the alliance to enhance workplace safety and health for Hispanic workers in Texas.
• HCAT is also hosting a two-day safety course on the campus. The training is designed for construction workers and participants will receive an OSHA 10-Hour Construction Outreach Card. Training will be held on Friday April 28, 2017, from 12:30 to 7 p.m. CDT; and on Saturday April 29, 2017, from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. CDT.

Both the ceremony and training will be held at the Richland College Garland Campus, 675 W. Walnut St. in Garland.
