U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia Visited Community Learning Center in Texas

WASHINGTON, DC U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia visited the Community Learning Center in Forest Hill, Texas, where more than 10,000 unemployed or underemployed workers have received training for high skill, family-sustaining careers in the aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries.

“The U.S. Department of Labor is working with partners in the private and public sectors to help train the next generation of workers for prosperous careers,” said Secretary Scalia. “The nation is experiencing unprecedented economic growth, and the Department will continue to strive to ensure that American workers develop the skills needed to reap the benefits of this economy and to propel our growth forward.”
There are currently 7 million open jobs in the United States, and open jobs have exceeded the number of job seekers for 19 straight months. In the past year, more than 300 companies and organizations have signed a Pledge to America’s Workers to create nearly 12 million opportunities for education and skills training for workers including apprenticeships, on-the-job training, and continuing education to fill these openings. The Administration will continue to work to help create more opportunities across all industries.

The mission of the Department of Labor is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights. The Department administers and enforces more than 180 federal laws. These mandates and the regulations that implement them cover many workplace activities for about 10 million employers and 125 million workers.
