Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis applauds appointment of Sharon Block to National Labor Relations Board

WASHINGTON – Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today issued the following statement on the recess appointment of Sharon Block to the National Labor Relations Board. Block currently serves as the U.S. Department of Labor's deputy assistant secretary of labor for congressional affairs.

"Sharon is an inspired choice to contribute her enormous talents to the critical work of the NLRB. She's a tireless champion of working families who learned at the footsteps of one of the great heroes of the American worker, the late Sen. Ted Kennedy, while working as a senior counselor on the Senate HELP Committee.

"Sharon is highly qualified for this position, having previously worked as a senior attorney at the NLRB. Her deep knowledge of labor law stretches back to her time as a law student, when she won the John F. Kennedy Labor Law Award at Georgetown Law Center.

"Sharon will be impartial and fair, and her expertise will help ensure that the federally protected rights of American workers to collectively bargain are not violated. I wish Sharon the best in her new endeavor. She will be sorely missed."
