Statement by Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis on Earth Day

WASHINGTON – Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today issued the following statement on Earth Day:

"Americans have always worked to make a difference in their own communities and around the world. Earth Day offers an important reminder to continue that tradition. We can – and must address the challenges that threaten our economy, our security and our planet.

"Investing in a 21st century clean energy economy is beneficial not only for our environment, but also for our economy and our ability to win the future. We must keep the momentum of our strengthening economy going, and transition to a clean energy economy that will create green jobs, keep America competitive and reduce our vulnerability to an ever-fluctuating oil market.

"American workers must lead this green revolution. That is why we are investing in American jobs and American innovation. By making strategic choices now, we will restore our country's role as a global leader in the clean energy industry. Our goal must be a future that works for all Americans, so that we can pass on to our children and grandchildren a stronger America and a better planet."
