Statement by Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis on death of Geraldine Ferraro

WASHINGTON – Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today issued the following statement on the death of Geraldine Ferraro:

"I was saddened to learn about the passing of Geraldine Ferraro today. Geri will forever be remembered as a trailblazer in American history. She was a fighter for the security, dignity and advancement of women from all walks of life. Whether it was in the classroom, in the courtroom, on Capitol Hill, or in cracking the glass ceiling as the first female candidate for vice president, Geri sought to uphold the ideals of equality, justice and opportunity. And, as the first Latina U.S. secretary of labor, I am proud to follow in her footsteps. Her legacy and example will live on in the hearts and minds of all Americans. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends."
