Statement by US Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis on San Francisco health coverage suit

LOS ANGELES Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today issued the following statement regarding the San Francisco health coverage suit:

The president s goal in health care reform was to make sure that all working people would have health coverage. Until the federal government acted, and Congress passed the Affordable Health Care Act, some state and local leaders like San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom took unique and courageous steps to make sure that their residents had access to affordable care and could get treatment when they needed it.

Now, as a result of the president s leadership, the actions of Congress, and the innovation of leaders like Mayor Newsom, all the American people soon will have access to health care. Cities and states will no longer have to take such action alone.
