U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda L. Solis announces changes in Job Corps leadership

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today announced that Dr. Esther Johnson, national director of Job Corps, will be leaving her position effective today. Dr. Johnson will undertake new duties as a senior advisor in the Office of the Deputy Secretary of Labor. In her stead, Lynn Intrepidi, former director of the Philadelphia Region of Job Corps will become acting director of the program.

"Esther Johnson is a proven leader who has exhibited a passion for expanding economic and educational opportunities for Job Corps youth through rigorous educational curriculum and expanded training programs," said Secretary Solis. "Under her steady hand, Job Corps youth are better prepared to become part of the 21st Century workforce. I thank her for her service."

Secretary Solis also expressed her appreciation to Ms. Intrepidi for stepping in to serve as acting head of Job Corps. Secretary Solis noted that, "Lynn Intrepidi is a seasoned government executive who has been part of Job Corps' proud history and I am happy that she will continue to provide the program with leadership while I launch a search for a permanent national director."

Esther Johnson, Ed.D, is a career public servant with extensive experience at both federal and state levels. She took over the leadership of the Job Corps program in March, 2006. This program offers free education and training in over 75 disciplines to youth 16-24 years of age at 123 centers nationwide.
